While the yurts are situated oustside of the village within a completely natural environment, the little house belongs to the center of the hameau (hamlet) de Riols. Built in 1892, it reflects the eventful history of the forest, mountain and former mining village of Graissessac. Today it allows its occupants to participate within the life of the hameau. You will reach the house via stairs that lead up to a small, partially covered terrace. Exposeed with all it's windows towards eastern morning Sun, a spacious room opens up within the first floor, integrating both the living and kitchen areas in a fuctional and asthetic wa. We preserved the old motive-colored tiles and a fireplace and woodstove creates a warm ambience during the cooler months. Upstairs you will find two bedrooms, a shower and a toilet. While furnishing the bedrooms which contain both double beds, we strived to maintain the original style of the old structure. On the other hand, we chose a more contemporary design for the shower and toilet. In its clarity and simplicity, the house expresses some of the humble spirit of the people who have dwelled here for centuries, surrounded within a majestic natural setting, and at times under challenging conditions. Situated just a few minutes from the yurts, it offers to guests the same convenient access to the hiking and other excursions that are available in the area. In addition, we feel the house to be ideal, especially in the quieter periods of fall and winter, for artisits or writers to have the possibilityof retreating here within a space that offers a supportive ambience for creativity. |
